TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF BUSINESS

Your booking is not confirmed until you receive email/text confirmation from Argyll Backpackers Hostel.

All guests over the age of 16yrs will be required to complete a Registration Form on arrival.

Overseas guests only:  Persons who are not British Commonwealth citizens, nor British protected persons nor citizens of the Republic of Ireland, must supply Passport Number or Certificate of Registration or other documentation establishing their identity and nationality.

If any guest included in your booking is under the age of 18, you MUST contact us before making the reservation to advise of their age(s).  We do not allow children under 10 year old to occupy a top bunk, due to bunks being purpose built for adults and higher than retail bunk-beds.  Depending on the age/size of the children, it is possible for 2 children to sleep (head/toe) in a lower bunk...please enquire regarding this possibility/price, do not just presume it will be acceptable.  Families with young children must book and pay for a full room nearest their group size, as we do not allow children to share with strangers. 

We regret that we cannot accept bookings from stag or hen parties wishing to 'party hard / pub style', and any attempt to book or arrive as smaller groups will forfeit the booking(s) and all monies paid. 

WE ARE A SMALL, RURAL, PRIVATE HOSTEL AND DO NOT HAVE 24/7 RECEPTION.  THEREFORE, PLEASE NOTE:                                                                                                                                                  Hostel Staff will only be available between 09:00-10:30 for departures, and 16:00-18:00 & 20:00-21:00 for arrivals.  If you have pre-booked/paid and arrive a bit early, please feel free to leave your bags to the side of the covered entrance, use the lounge/kitchen facilities, and then check-in at 16:00.  'Non-booked' guests should ring the doorbell, phone or text to enquire about vacancies, but must not leave bags or enter the building until advised to do so by Hostel Staff. 

NB:  ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE FULLY PAID & PRE-ARRANGED A 'LATE ARRIVAL' WILL BE CHECKED-IN BETWEEN 21:00-23:00.  AFTER WHICH TIME, ANY CHECK-IN WILL ONLY BE AT THE TOTAL DISCRETION OF THE DUTY WARDEN.  ANY GUEST(S) NOT FULLY PAID, OR PRE-ARRANGED THEIR 'LATE ARRIVAL' ARE CONSIDERED A 'NO SHOW' BY 21:00, WHEREBY ALL BOOKED BEDS UNDER THE NAMED LEAD GUEST MAYBE RE-SOLD AFTER 21:00 AND NO REFUND WILL BE ISSUED.  

ALL GUESTS ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THEIR OWN TRAVEL INSURANCE.

1. Enquiries:

a)  By ‘phone:-please call on 01546 603366 or 07786 157 727 between 10:30-12:00 & 15:00-17:00 hrs to check availability and make a booking.  Outwith these hours, please clearly leave your details on the answer machine for us to return your call.

b)  By email - please email us at argyllbackpackers@sky.com with your requirements.                                                                      

WE WILL USUALLY REPLY WITHIN 24 HOURS.

2. Bookings: (NB.  A 'Group' is up to 10 guests, NOT 'Sole Use' )...for 'Sole Use' see (4) below.

a)  Payment must be made in £ Sterling.  Full payment is required for all advance bookings.

b) 100%  full cost of the stay applies to individual(s), families/group(s) to secure all advance bookings.  Payment is required by Freetobook/Stripe, Bank Transfer, PayPal or Cheque only.  All other 'Walk-in' bookings are on a ‘1st come 1st served basis’ and must be paid in full on arrival.  

SORRY, WE DO NOT ACCEPT 'PROVISIONAL' BOOKINGS WITHOUT PAYMENT.  A DEPOSIT IS REQUIRED WHICH MAY BE PARTIALLY REFUNDED IN TERMS OF CONDITION 3 & 4 BELOW.

d)  The maximum stay permitted is 7 consecutive nights per person, per visit.

3. Cancellation Policy:

a)  If you wish to cancel your booking, please do this as soon as possible by email, when the following will apply:                                                                                  i)   14 days or more prior to arrival date, 50% refund of monies paid will be made;                                                                                                                                        ii)   7 to 13 days prior to arrival date, 25% refund of monies paid will be made;                                                                                                                                              iii)  3 to 6 days prior to arrival date, 10% refund of monies paid will be made;                                                                                                                                                iv)  2 days or less prior to arrival date, you will be liable for 100% of the cost of the accommodation for each party member.

4. Hire-a-Hostel Policy (Exclusive 'Sole Use')  

a)  The hostel is available for exclusive 'Sole Use' for stays of 2-7 nights, by a single group on a self-catering basis.  Bookings may be accepted for a maximum of up to 23 guests, (z-bed can also be added to one of the 4 bedded rooms if required).

b)  The full cost of the total hire period is payable at the time of booking, (plus a 'Good Housekeeping Deposit' of £300, refundable on departure if all left as found on arrival).  Please contact directly us for availability, charges and payment details. 

c)  Booking changes are subject to availability, and therefore cannot be guaranteed.

NOTE. The cancellation policy detailed at (3) above is not applicable for 'Sole Use' bookings and is restricted to:                                                                                    i)  1 calendar month or more prior to arrival, 50% refund of total monies paid;                                                                                                                                               ii) 14 days-1 month prior to arrival, the refund will be limited to 20% of monies paid;                                                                                                                                  iii) 13 days or less there will be no refund due.

5. Booking changes:

a)  Bookings may be changed, subject to availability, provided at least 7 days notice is given for an 'INDIVIDUAL' booking; or at least 14 days notice in the event of a 'GROUP' booking; or at least 1 month notice in the event of a 'SOLE USE' booking.

6. Arrivals/departures:

a)  Our check-in time is 16.00-18:00 & 20:00-21:00hrs, after which, the bed can be re-sold (unless we have been advised as detailed at (c) below.

b)  Check-out time is between 09:00-10:30hrs, ('earlier self check-out' can be arranged in advance/night before with the Duty Warden).

c)  Early/late check-in, or early/late check-out is not guaranteed.  However, every effort will be made to accommodate your request, but only if agreed by us and the times are reasonable. 

d)  A fee of £10.00 may apply for any guest who checks-out after 10:30hrs without prior arrangement to do so.

e)  Guests are expected to leave their room and the hostel in an acceptable state (clean and tidy with all rubbish placed in the appropriate bins).  Guests should strip linen from their beds and place it on the bed ready for collection by Staff.  If beds/rooms etc are left in a condition not deemed to be appropriate by the management, an extra cleaning fee may be charged to you/lead guest (Minimum £25.00).  A charge up to a maximum of £150 may be made for the necessary replacement costs for any 'soiled bedding', towels, carpet, furnishings and décor caused by, but not limited to: vomit, urine, faeces, food & drink stains, or cigarette burns.  We will also CHARGE IN FULL for any lost room/bed nights resulting from any such damage and incidents mentioned in this condition.

7. Vehicles:

a)  Please drive forward towards the Main Hostel door, then reverse park into the appropriately marked spaces only, (in numbered bays, between markings/red & white reflectors on the perimeter fence), and secure/lock any leisure equipment.  A Disabled parking bay is beside the ramp (by the metal staircase).  Guests who keep their dog(s) in their vehicle should ensure that they have appropriate access to air and water.  Dog(s) must be exercised out with the hostel grounds and their owners must immediately clean up after them.  Please ask staff for information on local dog walking routes.

b)  Cyclists should securely fit their own padlock, and all removable items should be stored in their room.  No cycling shoes to be worn within any inside area of the building, and under no circumstance should bicycles be stored in rooms.

VEHICLES SHOULD NOT BLOCK/BE LEFT AT ANY TIME ACROSS THE ENTRANCE, SIDE ROAD, GRASSED AREA OPPOSITE THE ENTRANCE, OR THE A83

8. Smoking, Alcohol and Drugs Policy:

a)  Smoking/Vapping is not allowed inside any part of the hostel building...it's the Law in Scotland.  Ash trays are provided for guests’ use outside the building on the terrace and an under-covered open area...please use them and don't throw 'butts'.

b) The management reserves the right to impose a maximum fine of £50.00 for non-compliance.  You/lead guest will be responsible and charged accordingly if anyone in your party smokes in your room or any inside 'common area'.

c)  Guests are permitted to bring/consume their own alcohol, but please drink and behave responsibly, remember hostels are shared accommodation. 

d)  Under no circumstances will the use of illegal drugs of any kind be permitted in or around the Hostel premises.

9. Guest Behaviour: (this is the standard expected of any ‘good hosteller’, in any hostel)

a)  Inverneil is a small, quiet, countryside hamlet, and as so, noise travels easily, therefore it is the responsibility of each guest to ensure that his/her behaviour does not detrimentally affect the safety, comfort and enjoyment of other guests and/or the local residents of Inverneil – this obviously includes, respecting other guests and their property, no shouting, revving of vehicle engines or banging of car doors, not entering neighbouring private property, land or gardens.

b)  The management has the right to have guests removed from the premises if their behaviour is deemed inappropriate; in these circumstances no refunds will be given.

c)  We require that if you use any equipment from the self-catering kitchen, you promptly & properly wash, dry and put away all items that you use and, that you leave toilets and showers in a clean hygienic state, ready for other guests use.  In other words please ‘leave things as you would expect to find them yourself’.

d)  Please do not take other people’s food as this is stealing; there is a wall shelf & a rack in the fridge marked ‘free food’ that anyone can use or add to, as well as plenty of space for your own food; tea/coffee/hot chocolate & porridge is supplied by the Hostel.  The fridge is regularly checked/cleared by Staff.

e)  Please ensure that you make up your bed each morning and keep your room tidy at all times during your stay - only then will this ensure your bed by Staff/new guests, and enable staff to clean the room.  On your departure day, please strip your bed, fold used bedding and leave on the bed ready for Staff collecting it.     

f)  There is no curfew, but we do expect guests to keep noise to a minimum between the hours of 23:00-07:00hrs to respect other residents.  Although the main doors are usually locked between 23:00-07:00hrs, any guest(s) wishing to return after 23:00hrs, should please advise the Warden in advance stating intended time of return, in order to make arrangements for entry.

10. Age Policy:

a)  Please note that anyone under the age of 16 who wishes to stay at the hostel must be accompanied by a responsible adult (over 18 years of age - proof may be required).  Families/Groups/Parties with children under 16 years old will be required to book and pay for a whole room.  We do not allow anyone under the age of 16, even when accompanied by their responsible adult, to stay in a shared room with other guests, unless unavoidable due to availability or their late booking, and only by agreement of all parties concerned.   

b)  Guests under 18's will not be permitted to drink alcohol on the premises and proof of age may be required.

c)  Minimum guest age is 3 years, with any younger guests only by prior agreement (we do not have cot(s) for hire.  There is no upper age limit for guests.

11. Argyll Backpackers Ltd Property:

Books, games and all other recreational materials in the 'Common-Room' which are marked “Property of Argyll Backpackers Ltd” should not be taken away, as these are for the benefit of all guests.  A small selection of books are available in the ‘swap library’ - if you wish to take one away, please be prepared to replace it with a book of your own.

12. Residents' Property:

a)  Argyll Backpackers Ltd does not accept liability for death, sickness or injury to any guest or for the damage to the property of any guest however sustained or caused, except when directly attributable to Argyll Backpackers Limited.

b)  It is the responsibility of each guest to ensure that their belongings are secure at all times. Rooms 1-5 have digital key pads, and keys are available for the outside rooms 6 and 7 (for a refundable deposit of £5 each).

c)  Under current legislation a hotel proprietor may, in certain circumstances, make good any loss or damage to a guest's property even though it was not due to any fault of the proprietor or staff of the hostel.

d)  This liability however:

i) Extends only to the property of guests who have engaged sleeping accommodation at the hostel;

ii) Is limited to a maximum of £50.00 for any one article and a total of £100.00 in the case of any one guest (proof of purchase will be required), except in the case of property which has been deposited for safe custody with the Manager/Duty Warden;

iii) Does not cover motor cars, motor bikes, cycles or other vehicles of any kind, or any property left in/on them, or horses or other live animals.

e)  This statement does not include an admission either that the above Act applies to this hostel or that liability thereunder attaches to the proprietor of this hostel in any particular case.

13. Resident’s Guests:

a)  The hostel is operated on a ‘residents only’ basis for the security/comfort of our resident guests and for Fire Register Requirements.

b)  Residents are discouraged from inviting any non-residents into the Hostel, but may only do so with the permission of the Manager/Duty Warden, and the non-resident(s) is/are restricted to the ‘Common-room’ area only, and not under any circumstance, any of the bedrooms, even if you booked a 'private room'.

c)  Non-resident guests must not enter before 18:30hrs and must leave the building by 21:30hrs.  (NB: unless by prior agreement with Manager/Duty Warden).

14. General Liability:

Every person on hostel premises shall, at all times, be deemed to be there at his/her own risk. He/she shall have no claim against Argyll Backpackers Ltd in respect of any accident which may occur, or injury, damage or loss how so ever caused, except in so far as the injury, damage or loss is caused by the direct negligence of Argyll Backpackers Ltd.

15. Force Majeure:

a)  Argyll Backpackers Ltd cannot accept any liability where the booking could not be fulfilled due to circumstances which we could not, not even with due care, have foreseen or avoided.

b)  Events may include but are not limited to war, threat of war, civil commotion or strife, hostilities, strikes or other industrial dispute, natural disaster, act of god, terrorist activities, technical problems with transportation, closures of airports, ports and/or ferries, quarantine, epidemics, weather conditions, government action or other events outside our control.
