Coronavirus Update

At Argyll Backpackers, as well as offering  great self catering options, we're also making every effort to offer and maintain a safe and relaxing environment by adapting our accommodation.  With our new layout of all 7 bedrooms now being en-suite, we can offer guests the option to book a 'Self-catering Unit' for either 4 or 6 guests, (possibly 8/9 subject to guidance), OR  be on a 'Room only Basis' with tea / coffee making facilities.  We can also provide 'Breakfast Bags' for a small charge if requested .  We will re-open as a hostel with full use of common room and self catering kitchen for all guests, when restrictions are relaxed - in the meantime, stay safe and well; we will get through this together!

All guests are advised to read the advice detailed under the Covid - 19 linked page above - as all bookings are subject to compliance with these measures.

Why stay at Argyll Backpackers?

We want more people to enjoy the Argyll Backpackers experience; so at our custom built accommodation, you are guaranteed to get a warm welcome and a comfortable stay!  Having had three great seasons, prior to Covid-19, we still want to do it all again - sharing our love of Argyll with guests from near and far.  There's lots to see and do and the spectacular scenery will ensure you enjoy every minute - you can even hire our 8 seater minibus with up to 6 bikes can be carried too!  Covered/secure cycle storage (provide your own lock), and free parking in our private carpark.

Beachside location, loch views & great access to cycling and walking routes

We are situated in the small hamlet of Inverneil, on the banks of Loch Fyne, just 2 miles south of Ardrishaig (which marks the start/finish of the world famous Crinan Canal). Finding us couldn't be easier; we're on the main road connecting Glasgow to Campbeltown (A83).  So whether you're on your way to Oban and the Isles, Bute, Arran, Islay, Campbeltown or even Ireland, we are ideally placed for a picturesque break enroute.  If using SatNav, directions entered should be  "Argyll Backpackers Hostel PA30 8ES", as using the postcode only, will direct you to turn off into a very narrow dead-end road at the far side of Inverneil !!!

We can help you make the best of your time in this part of the country as there are easy transport links for cyclists, motorists/bikers, public service bus (stops at the hostel), even canoeists or other boaties can arrive via Loch Fyne itself!

When you're planning your visit to the Argyll & Bute Region of Scotland, consider us for your stay. Singles, couples, families and groups are all welcome (although we regret, no hen or stag parties looking for pub entertainment). As dog owners ourselves, we're delighted to allow well behaved dogs too, as long as they sleep in your private room with their own bedding etc as they will not be permitted on beds or furniture.

The inspiration for the hostel originated from Pam's (the owner/warden) parents.  They met while visiting hostels in Scotland during the late 1940s and Pam inherited the bug!  She designed and project managed the build starting from a piece of waste ground and during that time has learned to turn her hand to many different building skills.  The result is a fantastic purpose built hostel designed to offer safe, comfortable and practical self-catering accommodation on a budget. We even have our mascot, Jack to greet you (a life size model of a backpacker, named after Pam’s Dad).

Our Self Catering Hostel

We have an open plan 'common-room' with a lounge and dining area for 24 guests leading to the self-catering kitchen which has 3 separate cooking areas, each complete with their own hob, kettle, toaster & sink.  Please note we do not provide meals, but complimentary tea, coffee & hot chocolate are provided, as well as some basics in the 'free food' shelves.  'The Hostel Shop' stocks a limited selection of tinned foods, PotNoodles, energy bars & drinks, Costa Lattes, etc (when available locally), as well as microfibre towels, for those travelling very light, or the just 'forgot to bring/get things'.

Our Staff

Argyll Backpackers Hostel is a small business and Pam the owner / warden will usually be on site to help ensure that you have a safe, comfortable and enjoyable stay. This is our home, and it's our mission to help you feel at home too!

We still go out of our help you enjoy your stay, regardless of COVID-19!

We love this area and enjoy letting our guests know about the great range of gems accessible right from our doorstep -  the best scenic/picnic spots, watching wildlife, historical sites and the ancient Scottish culture.

We have lots of information available for you, including local maps, ferry and bus timetables, activities for the adventurous and not so adventurous, and we can also suggest island hopping routes and great day well as where to buy the best local seafood to cook back at the hostel...just let us know what you're interested in...if you don't ask you may miss the best of Argyll !!

We love welcoming groups who want private/exclusive 'sole use' of the hostel to celebrate Weddings, Anniversaries, Birthdays, Graduations, Christmas/Hogmanay (New Year) or any other occasion in the hostel (sorry, no Hen/Stag groups looking for pubs).  Guests have always thoroughly enjoyed their stay and we hope to welcome more groups in the coming years, so why not contact us if you're organising a family/friends/club getaway!  Bring your own bicycles/kayaks and have a great adventure exploring the area around us, while not having to unpack/repack all your gear by staying a few nights.
